Kellye Seekatz (Incumbent)
Kellye Seekatz started her career as a kindergarten teacher with Bastrop ISD. Her love for teaching has carried over into her current position where she works as a training sales manager for Check-n-Go. Having received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Elementary Education from Texas State University, she is a proud Bobcat. However, she is an Aggie by marriage. Kellye and her husband, Allan (the Aggie), are also the owners of IHS Landscaping & Services, a local business.
Kellye and Allan are devoted parents of two daughters. Morgan and Payton, both of whom are graduates of BISD. Morgan graduated from Bastrop High School in 2015 as Valedictorian of her class and received her Master of Public Administration from the Bush School at Texas A&M in the fall of 2020. Payton graduated from Bastrop High School in 2017 and attended the Aveda Institute of Cosmetology. She has a successful career as a hair stylist and color specialist at a salon in Austin.
For the past twenty-one years, Kellye and Allan have lived, raised their children, built a business, and actively served in the Bastrop community. In 2015, Kellye was elected to the school board and has worked with the other trustees and superintendent, as a team of 8, always keeping a focus on the success of every student. Kellye believes that her background as an educator, business owner, and parent has guided each decision she has made and benefited her service on the school board.
Joseph B. Thompson
Joseph B. Thompson, formerly known as DJ Bling, has been an integral leader in the Central Texas nonprofit community since 2008. Well-Known as a DJ, music industry professional, and Philanthropist, Joseph has been instrumental in advocating for and providing educational resources to economically disadvantaged students and their families. In 2013, Joseph founded the DJ Bling Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students of disadvantaged communities with educational resources such as school supplies, health and dental screenings, clothes, shoes, food, and other resources needed to attain and maintain educational success. Since 2013, Joseph and DJ Bling Foundation have helped over 10,000 students in Austin, Bastrop, and surrounding areas. In 2020, During the COVID-19 pandemic Joseph started the conversation on creating “virtual learning pods” in the Austin community. Under his leadership, DJ Bling Foundation hosted a virtual learning pod in Bastrop for Bastrop ISD students. DJ Bling Foundation also provided free counseling to students who are experiencing mental health effects from the pandemic, virtual learning struggles, and other issues.
In addition, Joseph holds a Bachelors of Science in Music Business from Full Sail University, a Masters of Science in Divinity from Liberty University, and various graduate certificates and certifications on various other topics such as international law, politics, and marketing. Joseph is Co-Pastor of Christian Interactive Fellowship Church based in San Marcos, Texas and Joseph also served in the U.S. Marine Corps with tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2002 to 2005.
